OICF’s member colleges and universities actively seek to recruit a diverse student body, which embraces individuals from all social, economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds. Campuses with highly diverse student and faculty populations are critical to a rich environment within which students may experience inclusiveness and develop an appreciation of individual differences. In the fall of 2005, the OICF member colleges and universities embarked on a collaborative effort to partner with regional organizations that represent various underserved populations (i.e., students of color and first generation students) for the purpose of raising awareness among students and parents within these groups about the opportunities available via these institutions of higher learning. The OICF board and leadership is committed to raising $1.0 million toward scholarships, as well as student recruitment and retention activities by the end of OICF’s FY2007. Equally important, OICF members are also committed to sharing resources and strategies that help strengthen the common interest of recruiting and retaining students from underrepresented populations. OICF colleges offer a supportive, personalized environment where students from all backgrounds can thrive. Professors are accessible and leadership opportunities abound. OICF campuses are small communities where each student is an important member. With an average student to faculty ratio of 12:1 and full-time enrollment of 1,400, students are never lost in the shuffle of campus life. The OICF colleges provide an ideal setting for students from underrepresented populations. Collaborative Outreach - Recruitment, Retention & Scholarships
