The OICF, and seven member institutions participated in the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs 2006 “A New Beginning Youth Conference” held at the Agency Longhouse in Warm Springs on March 29.

More than 50 Native American students participated. Admissions officers and Multi-Cultural staff from seven of the OICF member colleges and universities were on-hand with tabletop displays and information about their institutions.

Students, parents, family members and elders participated in the event which served as a motivational tool to area Native students and present post-secondary options for youth and to consider.

The students were enthusiastic. This was another wonderful first time event for the OICF and the member colleges and universities to participate and reach out to the Native community and Confederated Tribes of Oregon.

This event is another step in our overall focus on building more diverse campuses that are open and welcoming of all people. We look forward to bringing students from the Confederated Tribes  and other community organizations to the ten OICF campuses in 2006.
